With this interpretation of the painting “The Visitation” (1506) by Master M.S., I resorted to a classic exercise of copying the great masters. Some copy at museums, others from art albums or posters, seeking to create “in the manner of.” Here, photography serves painting, or perhaps it is the other way around. The mediums intertwine in a relationship of reference, but also of imitation, representation, and alteration. Can one reproduce the aesthetics of an image through another medium? What remains of the original? An attitude? A posture? A sense of familiarity? Models and figures come together, reflect each other, and face each other during the photographic capture.
Photography serving painting, merging the mediums, while also questioning the relationship of imitation, representation, and alteration.
